How to score on socials in 2024

  • Social media strategy

Just like the - slightly creepy - AI yearbook trend on TikTok, the year has finally come to an end. But let’s face the facts, a brand-new year also means a fresh load of social media trends… Which can be quite overwhelming.

Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. Here’s 4 things to keep in mind this year.

LONGER VIDEOS ARE BACK

We know we said the shorter the better… But it seems like things might be changing. Videos are getting just a little longer again. We’re still not talking about LONG videos, but we are heading towards 2 to 5 minutes. Why? Simply because the socials are allowing us to. You can already upload Reels that are 15 minutes long. So, why not do it if you’ve got something to say? On X, premium users can even upload videos up to two hours long. A little extra, but we honestly wouldn’t expect anything less from Elon Musk.

THE NEW SEARCH ENGINES

The fact that social media platforms like TikTok are coming for Google’s throne isn’t exactly news. They have been the go-to search engine for Gen Z for the last year and will continue to be. Even more so, TikTok started integrating Google search results into its in-app results. So as a brand, this means you’ll have to answer your audience’s questions right on the socials and keep keywords in mind for your TikTok captions! Your audience is no longer googling your brand, they’re looking for answers and honest opinions on their favorite app.

AI, WHAT ELSE

At this point, we’re all kind of tired of the words ‘artificial intelligence’. Everyone and their mother have done at least something with AI. But it doesn’t mean we’re all actually over it too. In fact, AI is constantly developing, which only means there’ll be even more possibilities in 2024. The main idea is: don’t resist. Sure, it might seem scary sometimes, but AI is not coming for your job if you learn how to use it to your advantage. Learn about it, stay up to date and just roll with it. See what AI can do for you, for your brand and your work process.

THE HUMANIFICATION OF LINKEDIN

Let’s be honest, LinkedIn can be a snooze fest. Do we really want to see our high school boyfriend’s motivational speech? Applaud our uncle on landing his 35th job? No. We want the real stuff. The real reason why someone left their job. The real struggles and the real highs. Ever since Covid, people started sharing the behind the scenes. It’s no longer just about finding a job, it’s about sharing experiences and advice. It’s a lot more personal than it used to be and it will continue developing like this. Keep in mind however, that the algorithm still heavily prioritizes professionalism. So try to find the perfect mix between personal and professional.

We’re sure 2024 will be filled with trends. Trends we never saw coming, trends coming back, and trends that’ll die sooner than we’d expect. Trends come and trends go, but the most important thing you should always keep in mind is that in the end, you should be checking and adapting all year long. Keep up and you’ll do just fine.
